I am your host, Marci Nettles. I have had a lifetime of opportunities where I had the choice to Breakdown or Breakthrough... did I always make the “right” choice? Nope. I did however find a way to continue moving forward until I was able to see there was a path through my chaos into joy. In this episode you are going to hear JT Hawker share his story of Addiction and the wake of destruction that followed...
JT is a man of integrity, inspiration, hope and determination... something he never thought he would be until he discovered the power hidden within him and the light of God.
After over a decade of pain and chaos, while in the grips of addiction, he found himself at a crossroads in a literal do or die situation and found strength he never though possible.
The addiction started in his early thirties after doctors could not pinpoint the cause of his back pain and started him on a road of destruction by prescribing several different opioids in mass quantities during the height of the opioid crisis.
Without knowing the addictive properties of the ‘medication’, JT continued to use opioids to not only cope with the pain, but they became a crutch to handle the complications of life as well. The need for sustaining the pain relief and energy opioids provided, JT spiraled into over-consuming the medications and after becoming completely ill with addiction, JT reached for street drugs to pull out of the horrific withdrawals.
His life collapsed. His career ended. His children lost complete respect for him, and his husband was completely beside himself in confusion and grief...
